Inspired by The Brutalist being an Oscar nominated film I’ll never watch on account of being 3 and a half hours, are there any films over 200 minutes that’re remotely worth the effort?
Godfather Pt2 (although that would probably involve watching Pt1 as well which is also great)
Depends on whether or not you like long films
But that depends on if they’re worth it
Doctor Zhivago and Lawrence of Arabia imo.
Oh, they aren’t quite 200 minutes, soz. Long though.
Out1 (12h 53m) - good. Could be shorter.
The uncut version of Once Upon A Time in America is the one that springs to mind.
Don’t have anything fundamentally against long films, just seem to quite a lot of blockbuster type films that are very long for no real purpose.
Wrestlemania X-Seven
Was just typing Once Upon A Time In America. Great film, and worth the run time, but the first time I saw it was on Channel 4 back in the 90s and with the inclusion of ads, they split it over two evenings ![]()
The Irishman by contrast - not worth the run time. Contains about 90 minutes worth of story ![]()
Ha!
Seven Samurai. 207 minutes, never boring
Goodnight
Good Friday
2 good ones in name AND nature
Eight Samurai. 236 minutes. Drags a bit at the end
A Brighter Summer Day (237 minutes)
The DVD was over 2 discs and, iirc, disc 1 stops mid-scene!
Twin Peaks The Return (it’s a film, sorry)
Shoah
Wrestlemania X7
Love Exposure
Gone with the Wind
Once Upon a Time in America
Lawrence of Arabia
Seven Samurai
All over 200 minutes and all bangers
Slightly shorter than 200 mins but still great:
Spartacus
Fanny and Alexander
Babylon
Inland Empire
Was going to suggest some Nuri Bilge Ceylan films but none of them pass 200 minutes (The Wild Pear Tree is 188, Winter Sleep 196, About Dry Grasses 197). They’re all very good though.
I think the only film I’ve seen that’s this long is Killers of the Flower Moon and that could have been about an hour and a half shorter. Find that a film has to really justify its running time when it passes the 2 hour mark.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League
