For five years at my last company I received an England Rugby Union shirt. It was the World Cup here around that time I believe so they had personally selected it for me based on my major personality trait being English.

If I’m being generous I may have watched 3 full rugby union matches in my life.

I was very polite and grateful. I still have it now, in a drawer, with the price tag on.

I earn 80% more now than I did when I joined 5 years back so sometimes it is worth sticking around.

The dinner has to be with your colleagues right?

Can’t imagine anything more likely to make me quit.

you basically just get cash / or are required to buy something for yourself using the company card at my place

Over the years I’ve bought an SM58 microphone and a new cartridge for my turntable

They’ve changed it to just cash now - so the last one I got just got swallowed up by my account, so no idea what it got spent on

Sure, but the extra money’s in exchange for your misery.

Yeah, “up to 20 people” though, so a solo dinner might count. Just get whatever you want then leave about £500 as a tip.

Seems like a reasonable trade (it’s actually become more enjoyable over the years, apart from a bit more stressful).

Yeah. Misery now for freedom earlier.

I’ve never worked anywhere that did this.

I was at my last place for 9 years (albeit in three different offices), which did mean that I got a fairly decent redundancy payout.

13.5yrs here. Got an extra .6 week of annual leave (3 days), and 10 year service badge. If I get to 25yrs, I’ll get a night out at a west end show.

I recommend Aspects of Love.

Cool, I’ll look out for that in 11.5yrs time then.

After 5 years at my previous job, my boss bought me:
8x pint of Thatchers Gold
4x shot of Jameson
2x shot of Fireball
So in summary, for five years service, I got given a hangover.

Oh yeah, also If you make it to ten years here you get an extra 8.66 weeks of annual leave. And then 4.33 weeks after the next five, with this then continuing as just under a week of extra leave a year.

Was here for one year as of last week. I got a Milka bar. It’ll do.

He did, but it was in the pub he owns and I ran, so no money was involved. Pretty sure it all got written off as wasteage.

Wait, you’d get an extra 8.66 weeks of leave a year?

Nah as a one off, but then you continue to accrue leave at the same rate in addition to standard annual leave. So an extra 8.66 weeks every 10 years.

Sunday will mark the 10th anniversary of me joining DiS

How much leave do you get as standard?

I get 4 weeks a year. An extra 8 would be crazy.
