So i’m not a regular thread starter here, but I wanted to share my love for the debut solo album (“1”) from Luke Jenner (frontman from the Rapture) that came out last year. I didn’t know this even existed, must have missed the minimal press around it, but I looked him up whilst reading Meeting Me in the Bathroom as it reminded me how much I loved them at the time.
So my listening habits have been weird in this lockdown (basically just Phoebe Bridgers, and unable to take anything new on board!), but this album really grabbed me. It’s kinda hard to put in a box - it reminds me of various artists at various points - LCD soundsystem, spiritualized, more acoustic proggy stuff. I’d encourage anyone to give it a try - there’s spoken word stuff and he’s grappling with becoming a father, childhood and family issues. I’m blown away by how much I’ve enjoyed it/related to it.
If you have time for one track, make it All My Love (which whilst being 10 mins long, i’m amazed wasn’t picked up really widely!):
An interview from when he was about to put out his (also good!) Meditation Tunnel EP is here, and fills in the gaps/explores lots of themes on the album:
sweet, i missed this coming out as well. Use to love the rapture, echoes is still one of my favourite records ever.
Will be giving this a listen later.
I know, right!?? It’s so good! I ordered a nice yellow double LP version last week on the back of about 2 listens.
I can’t believe it didn’t get much attention on release - Minimal press/reviews, but Pitchfork actually gave it a nice write up. The interview I linked to (i think it’s in there anyway) suggests it’s part 1 of a 3 album series… so looking forward to more!
like a few others here i’m surprised I missed this. have a lot of good memories associated with the rapture so will defo give this a spin tomorrow. thanks @JohnnyPark
