OK I’m going to defend Katy here.

She’s obviously singing about making out to ‘Radio Head’, the Talking Heads song. Which is bouncy and fun and you could totally make out to it.

Ah, I miss the old boards (and I wasn’t even a DIS’er then). That is classic. The question never did resolve itself though, did it? Well, not definitively.

Amsterdamage:

First verse: “GLC’s here, clart - all of us, man - let’s get fucked up we’re in Amsterdam!”

Last verse: “Boarding the plane on the way back to 'Port, 2Hats is picking us up in his Escort”

Now, 2Hats is one of the Goldie Lookin Chain, so how can he simultaneously be on a flight from Amsterdam and waiting in his car for the collective at Cardiff airport? I rest my case.

Kind of horrifying to see the casual uses of “retard” in that thread. Not blaming the people for it, I’m sure I was once the same, but it shows things have hopefully gotten better.

Maybe 2Hats went home early

Oooh Heaven is a place on Earth.

Erm.

2Hats isn’t the sort to flake on a beano. It’s quite the informative song so I feel that that hypothesis would be mentioned in verse two or three if true.

There is a recent Sun Kil Moon song where the lyrics contain a ‘fan’ letter to Kozalek basically telling him how incredible he is. I always assumed Kozalek probably wrote that about himself.

He also has a song where he writes about being heckled at Shepherd’s Bush when he played Livingstone Bramble (“I hate Nels Cline”). I was there, he wasn’t heckled, people laughed nervously and someone asked him, quite politely, why he hated Nels. He went on a rant about Wilco (which in the song he reports as ‘I explained that I didn’t hate Nels’ or something).

TL;DR, I’m not sure I trust MK to be 100% accurate with his stories.

I was not aware of that Alan Bennett collection/story, will have to look it up. So it probably was just you

I think you are probably the only person to have made that error, that’s an impressive mistake.

Also, would love to hear an Alan Bennett monologue about Radiohead.

I can think of at least two songs where Mark Kozelek does this. Both are shit.

“I’m in love for the first time
& this time I know it’s for real”

eh?

Nah I think this one works - he thought he was in love at some other point in the past, but he knows that what he’s feeling now is love and what he felt before wasn’t.

It was 11 years ago now. Things change. I think in general that word has become far less acceptable in that time. Still used flippantly but I think you are much more likely to get called out for it.

Old DiS was a genuinely nasty place at times.Ive had two accounts over the years and both times if you were not a recognised name you can expect an attempt at a thread to be shot down with snarky comments

“It’s not about the money, money, money
We don’t need your money, money, money
We just wanna make the world dance,
Forget about the price tag”

Given that it costs upwards of £50 I find that hard to belive

rewminds me of bukowski. there was a journo who followed him around on a book signing tour or something, and bukowski did his own write up of it full of all these interesting anecdotes and the journo pointed out to him that none of it had happened and he responded ‘hey buddy, in my stories I’M the hero’
