Decided to watch this tonight, first time since the cinema I think. In my head it was a grey movie but no, it’s brown, brown, brown. And really very good.
Found Glengarry Glen Ross streaming free on ITVX.
Man is this a Brown Movie.
moneyball is a brown movie. you might be put off by it seeming to be a sports movie but don’t you worry, you’re heading straight to brown town baby
love this. think it might be one of my favourite genres even if I didn’t know it.
This is Twelve Angry Men, but somehow that doesn’t feel brown. Too old? Too black and white?
Yeah, think it’s a definite 70s phenomenon. The aesthetic should really be that anyone who happens upon a brown/beige movie when channel hopping will wonder why prestige actors like Dustin Hoffman or Gene Hackman have shown up in what looks like an episode of Kojak.
I think the coloured in version would be but, yes, the B&W seems to reduce it from the running
Brown movies aren’t about whether the colour palette contains a lot of brown, that’s just a classic identifier of a brown movie
12 Angry Men is 100% a brown movie imo
@noopout would you agree?
What I’m saying is I think the essential cinematography of it makes it feel like not a brown movie, I’m responding directly to the musings about @riverwise finding it feels less so.
It matches enough of the criteria to be included but feels ‘off’ for these other reasons, IMO
On further thought, I think it’s not brown because it’s not morally ambiguous enough. There’s too much decency in it. For it to be truly brown perhaps you’d have to find out at the end that the kid really did commit murder, and Henry Fonda and his mates had unwittingly helped him escape justice.
Dog Day Afternoon: brown-adjacent…?
can’t believe people are questioning the brownness of 12 angry men
no wonder they’re angry
Too much yelling I think, ideally in a Brown you only really want the protagonist to completely lose his shit once when the weight of the forces of evil just seems completely unmatchable. Definitely hues of brown though.
was surprised this didn’t make the merto list, don’t think it even made the 500. very good and brown movie imo, i gave it a bunch of points
