Madeira, Gran Canaria & Lanzarote Reco's Please.

I’ll be on a short cruise next week and will spend a day each in Funchal, Las Palmas & Arrecife.

Any eateries or sights I should see in each?

All reco’s welcome, ta.

Arrecife itself is quite drab from what we saw, we had lunch here which was cheap and nice: https://www.charcovivo.com/

This on the outskirts is worth visiting: Fundación César Manrique – Fundación César Manrique

If you can get to Timanfaya national park then you should do so: https://turismolanzarote.com/en/visiting-the-timanfaya-national-park/

Funchal’s wonderful. If I only had a day I’d probably get the bus to the Botanical Gardens then take the cable car across to Monte. If you’re wanting to go full on tourist you can then take a traditional toboggan ride back into the centre - it’s an underwhelming rip off in my opinion.

Yeah, the toboggan is shite

Reviving an old thread here.

Anyone done any walks / hikes in Gran Canaria? I’m going away with my parents and I’m not a massive beach person, looks like there are some trails or whatnot about. Any easyish trail recommendations? I have decent stamina but don’t like really exposed difficult terrain / going down sharp hills because I get scared.

Not sure if you want to do things at your own pace but there are a bunch of guided tours and hikes for various levels.

This is a good idea. Turns out we are staying in Maspalomas which seems to be the least interesting part in terms of nature and stuff to do lol but I found a shortish and hopefully easyish walk nearby which is a bit desert-esque, something different I guess. I’ll definitely see about the dunes trail as well.

Nice, I am there next week as well. If with your mum, may want heads up that some spots of the dunes are used for nudists, and sexual activity isn’t unheard of either!
