Make a playlist with a song from every year you've been alive

Well here’s a fun weekend challenge for you. A mate of mine did this for his 30th birthday recently and invited others to do the same. Other pals did theirs in a couple hours, whereas I took a whole month because I went down a rabbit hole of pretty much every song I’ve ever loved in my lifetime…

So if you are going to play along, I would advise not overthinking it and ending up with this:

Anyway, here is the finished product. There was some tough but fun decisions to be had, and listening back to it I’m pretty happy with it, think it reflects the wide range of shite I listen to (something that’s even more obvious in the big list above) so here we go:

Enjoy!

Your long list is mostly excellent.

I’ve been playing it when I’m at work on my Todd/debuted it at a little house gathering a couple weeks ago, and also pretty happy with it. Feels weird though detailing what is essentially my life’s listening in a playlist.

Love how scatty I am too, there’s pop, punk, Hardcore, metal, hip hop, electronic, not much country or folk but there’s still one or two here or there

1990 is bleak
2007 is impossible

It’s weird how that goes innit. Like 96 and 2016 (heh) were both pretty crap and then there are some years which are impossible

Absolutely. 2012 and 2015 were both tricky too.

Anyhow:

Set myself a rule of only one track per artist - had to sub Let’s Dance out for Slippery People so I could keep Lazarus for 2016. I also put one of my own in there but to be fair I wouldn’t have recorded it if I didn’t like it…

(going to put food in the oven now, but will type out shortly)

Not got there yet, but think this will be one with far too many to choose from for me.

I actually did this when I turned 40 four years ago. I didn’t give it a huge amount of thought. Just chose a banger from each year:

That’s a better 1990 pick than I managed…

Yeah I think the one per artist rule thing was intended by my mate but I ignored it

Probably overthinking this. But…For the year i was born I was born in the summer. Can I pick a song from February or March etc

I certainly didn’t worry about the month I was born, purely the year

Would be different if i tried to pick a song from the charts on my birthday each year. That would definitely be tough

Daydream Nation came out about a month before I was born so go for it

This is a great idea for a thread. Going through mine now

This will take me forever because I am terrible at remembering what years things are from. Really want to do it though as I like the idea!
