Makes me laugh the way the Gillingham in Dorset

Are we all in denial of Gillingham Wisconsin? Babes, be real for ONE DAMN MINUTES

Every time, without fail, when leaving the End Of The Road festival, I crack the “nearly home, lads!” joke as we see the Gillingham sign. Even though we have a good 150 miles to go. Never gets old :joy::joy:

Fact break that I think you & @1101010 will both appreciate:

‘Gift’ is the Swedish word for ’married’

It is also the Swedish word for ’poison’

In both cases it is pronounced ’jift/yift’

Make of this what you will

It’s the German word for poison too. Pronounced the same as in English.

Hence Barry Burns’ old bar in Berlin.

I grew up in Dorset and there was little consistency, people pronounced it both ways, probably more with a hard G. I’ve always thought of the Kent version of Gillingham as bit of an imposter.
