If you haven’t had chance to stream or add this album to your collection yet, would be amazing if you could do so before midnight to help us wrestle The Anchoress album up the charts.
The record is being released by a small socialist label, who also run a record shop and record club, so we’re (I’ve been managing Catherine for a decade) unable to match the major label releases this week with huge marketing spend but we’ve had thousands of direct to fan physical sales and lots of support from Qobuz and Bandcamp (zero playlist placements from Spotify). Charts are not that important to fans but there’s a bunch of people in the industry that still take them very seriously, so it’s a big help, especially if you were maybe gonna give the album a go at some point

I’ve listened a couple of times and really like it. Probably her best. I think we got the CD in at work so I’ll probably pick it up.

Remember coming out of one of those Roundhouse shows and feeling that while it was good, maybe performing THB all those years later was beyond where they were at. Maybe I’d spent too many years being obsessed with the album and expectations were impossibly high. I don’t think I knew JDB had been ill in the run-up either. Will be interesting to see how these recordings stand up.

Did the film ever get a release prior to this? I saw it on YouTube and thought it was pretty intense i have to say. Smart move having the audience mixed so loudly. The new clips look different, and this is a ‘Director’s cut’?

I went to the first Roundhouse date, the one where James had a cold and which most people said was the worst of the 3. From what I can remember, most of ‘Be Pure. Be Vigilant. Behave.’ was recorded from that first night. Lol.

Agree. It’s one of my favourite albums but I have no interest in modern day Manics playing it, they bore the pants off me now (with the caveat that every so often they put out a decent one – Futurology, Journal for Plague Lovers – but there’s no way they’re giving The Holy Bible the respect it deserves, the respect it d e s e r v…e…s).
