The way he treated his partner predominantly. I think there’s an inherent selfishness in it (very similar to how I felt about Emile Hirsch’s character in Into The Wild)

i took the relationship with his partner, and his attitude towards women generally, to be as a result of his asperger’s, they touched on it with his dad having been the same way with travel, could be wrong though

Yeah, I guess that’s fair. Probably harsh phrasing.

Yeah I took it as unspoken that he had aspergers.

Aha sorry1

I just found it to be quite lazy really

I thought the main character was well fleshed out in the scenes at school/the party, but the way she spoke with her dad made her quite dislikeable in a way (and obviously written in a way for the reconciliation at the end).

There are also bits which are seemingly forgotten about or just not explored fully (the boy she has a crush on to start just disappears, I also would have liked to have seen her older friend’s reaction to the events in the car with the boy

Loved it. Great screen adaptation of one of my favourite writer’s work. Excellent casting, acting and beautifully paced. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Gripping stuff. But I do have a question for people who have also seen it.

Jong-su asks to meet Ben at the end of the film, claiming that he is with Hae-mi. Now, if we assume that Ben had killed Hae-mi, which was hinted at throughout the remainder of the film once she went missing, why would he agree to meet-up with someone that he knew was dead, having murdered her? Are we to assume that Ben didn’t kill Hae-mi and that Jong-su got it wrong?

In keeping with the ‘is /isn’t it’ nature of the film. Either Ben didn’t kill her, or he DID kill her and is interested in what Jong-Su knows.

The ending could be a manifestation of the book that we see him working on towards the end. The ending could be interpreted that Ben was innocent, he’s a life coach that helps directionless girls find themselves and then finds them a new life, the murder was entirely in Jong-su’s mind. The ending could also be just that Ben is a sociopath and wanted to see what Jong-Su would do. The ambiguity is the best thing about the film.

Yeah, definitely.

Who doesn’t like a bit of ambiguity?
