what you lot think of the idea of having playoffs like they do in Germany (3rd to last in top division vs 3rd from top in the 2nd tier?

here’s what I’d like to see

3 automatic promotion spots in the championship, then 6th plays 17th in the prem, winner of that plays 5th, winner of that plays 4th for the place in the prem

that would also mean a clear benefit to finishing 4th over 5th and 5th over 6th and make it a proper challenge for whoever finished 17th (in Germany, the team from the higher division only failed to win the playoff once in the last decade)

Reduce the size of the Prem by 3 first. The bottom of the division is consistently awful, towards the end of the season the middle half has nothing to play for, and it’d ease some of the fixture congestion. Run play-offs between fourth last and fifth last until it’s done.

What you’re mooting sounds like a bit of an arse-ache tbh but I would in theory be supportive of more nuanced play-offs.

Would be up for 5 up, 5 down. More relegated teams would make relegation less big a deal and hopefully give the attritional, 17th is success bottom feeders (Burnley, palace, Newcastle, Watford etc) some impetus to have a long term plan, maybe try to win a cup or something.

i did the maths and i’m pretty sure it was better financially to finish a single place higher in the prem than to fully win the fa cup, which is fucking ludicrous
