Is that Xhaka you’re referring to? because i was thinking the same.

Isn’t there a chance Dier will face punishment, and didn’t Xhaka just get a fine?

I don’t think the two situations are close enough to compare, anyway.

I’m talking about the thing that happened this season at the arsenal game

Must have missed that incident completely, sorry.

Oh wait the stuff where he was getting booed? Didn’t realise he received any punishment for doing what he did.

Wasn’t talking about punishment, more media treatment, response by fans etc

Thought Xhaka had received a lot of support at the time. People will have different opinions and different opinions on very different events though I guess.

nah he was crucified by the Arsenal ‘fans’, certainly online, they only really forgave him when Arteta arrived and his performances/confidence improved. Even now you’ll have some who are still outraged that he’d stand up for himself like that

It’s the underlying attitude that because players are paid a lot that the fans are entitled to say/shout what they like about them - there’s definitely a bit of a disconnect here in terms of the reaction to Dier and the reaction to Xhaka

remember when Eboue was booed off.

Arsenal do it a lot though, innit. Booing their own players.

Yeah absolutely, and they never seem to gain any self-awareness about it. That Eboue incident should have been the end of it, it was so disturbing to watch that.

he was in tears coming off the pitch, wasn’t he? still stands out as one of the worst things I’ve seen in football.

Arsenal fans were being utter pricks to Adebayor less than a year after the Eboue incident

The differing opinions on Dier along club lines online, especially on Twitter, is really, really fucking weird, but of course in absolutely no way surprising.

great goal that

not sure what the defenders could’ve done differently, their positioning was fine right?

they just got absolutely done by terrifying levels of acceleration

That’s Arsenal fans though. They love crucifying their players/managers.

United and Liverpool have been arguing this to UEFA for years. Successfully as well. A couple of seasons ago they changed the prize money to award “historic success”.
