RIP. The Pop Group at ATP was one of my all time favourite gigs! Incredible.
This is such a shock. I saw Mark Stewart + The Maffia every chance I could and they were never less than outstanding.
He went from being the most audience shy performer imaginable (hiding behind speakers, all lights on stage extinguished) to properly avuncular by the time the Pop Group reformed.
Saw The Pop Group do Y in full with Dennis Bovell on the boards at Coventry Cathedral a few years ago. A genuine trailblazer, and an absolutely devastating loss.
Only know his stuff with The Pop Group and that’s fucking great. Especially those first two albums. RIP.
