I don’t think this is true…think it has an E no. in it that can com from animals.

I only remembered last week that my Mam worked on the tills in M&S in Clonmel for about a year between accounting jobs. She thought it was fucking great.

I have purchased items in M&S approximately six times in my entire life. My GF and her family flippin’ love the place though.

Brian?

The gf is a veggie and she is adamant. I had to check on a couple of veggie websites because I didn’t believe her…

Brian E-number is definitely going to be the name of my early-Roxy tribute act

Think he’s vegetarian.

Lord Marcus Sieff, long time Chairman of M&S, wrote that one of the fundamental objectives of M&S is to aid the economic development of Israel (Management: The Marks & Spencer Way, Weidenfield & Nicolson, 1990).

I think that most of M&S’s support for extremist Zionist activities began to slow down with the death of Seiff in 2001. Three years after that, however, they were still stocking produce from illegally occupied areas - which is a considered a war crime.

This website does though say that…

The company scores a worst Ethical Consumer rating for the likely use of tax avoidance strategies.

The company was found by Ethical Consumer to have:

  • a holding company based in Hong Kong with subsidiaries in Hong Kong, Macao and Cambodia
  • another holding company in Hong Kong with subsidiaries in China and
  • a holding company in Singapore with a subsidiary in India
  • six companies based in Guernsey
  • seven companies in Jersey
  • six companies in Singapore

Marks and Spencer had a tax statement that stated that the company intended “to manage our global tax affairs in a manner that is in keeping with our longstanding values and aligned to our shareholders’ interests” and which ensured that “any tax planning is based on commercial business activity.”

Too pricey for the weekly shop but every now and then I’ll stop in for some luxury items like nice teabags, good biscuits etc. Solid stuff. They’ve also been my primary supplier of boxers and socks for a few years now

Yeah. So much of their stuff seems to be remarkably unhealthy too.

A very sensible jumper.

I got a good yoga mat from there

Also love M&S as worked night shifts there when about 19. Did absolutely no work. Like, nothing. Store was new and still didnt have functioning cctv. Few people on the shift would turn up and just hotbox the staff smoking room and then eat the delicious throw outs that were just out back. They were chucking £25k a week in waste! :hushed:

I think the quality of (e.g.) the fruit / fresh produce is higher. Not that I ever buy any of it tbf

It’s really good for picnic-y stuff, also the fresh stuff is decent.
