Yeah I am not really wedded enough to the concept to care. I’m not even sure I’ll bother watching it.

It’s a huge mistake to not have RDJ do Stark because he’s the a hot in the series, and to revoice Boseman is wild.

Really jarring.

Also what is the point in this?

It actually is Boseman, they’ve been working on this for a while I guess.

The What If comics I think are generally there to be something fun where writers can run with some fun/silly ideas, and I could totally understand if it was being pushed that way.

Saying that would be down with a Hayley Atwell super soldier character in something proper

Yeah also thought it was really poor. Was an ok way to spend a Saturday night, but the naff accents, ugly costumes, flat banter, dull music, ropey cgi, uninventive action and lack of any directorial flare or imprint really prevented it from being anything lasting. Not seen the Norton Hulk, so put it 2nd bottom after Thor 2.

Mid-tier for me. Liked Johannsen and Pugh’s performances (even with the generic East European accent for Pugh) and nice to have a Marvel film that couldn’t lean quite so heavily on laser beams and the like again.

Red Guardian can sod off for good, but I was fairly happy with the overall plot arc. A little pedestrian at times, but the same went for a lot of the Phase 1 and 2 films IMO.

Hawkeye in the films is boring af, but the Hawkeye comics that it’s looking like it will be based on is one of the best and most fun and idiosyncratic things Marvel have ever published and will introduce a new Hawkeye played by Haillee Steinfeld, so I would say it will probably be good and look forward to it.

Not interested in Black Widow, looks p whack.

enjoyed black widow quite a lot, solid standalone film for sure. the moonraker/jaws stuff was fun too. would love to see more florence pugh in the mcu, maybe she’ll not-so-slowly lose her accent as well…

If only there were some precedent for that…

I assumed that was the joke he was making?

Loki finale spoilers about how it ties in to rest of MCU and Phase 4:

I’m guessing that Jonathan Majors is the medium/big bad for a number of the upcoming films now? That certainly felt like it was setting up Spider-Man, Doctor Strange and Ant-Man 3. I do wonder if they’ll explain it all again in the theatrically released films because that was quite a lot of important exposition to include in a subscription service TV show.

Also I saw Black Widow on Monday and thought it was surprisingly poor. Watered down Bourne/Bond for the first half and very generic Marvel nonsense for the second half. Ray Winstone an absolutely shocking casting decision too. Pugh and Harbour only just about managed to pull it over the finish line. The female reproductive system bit was also good and nice to see that kind of smarter, more contemporary humour in a big tentpole like this.

Post credits spoilerz:

Pugh Vs Hawkeye is going to be one of those really annoying ‘a couple of minutes of chat could resolve this’ things isn’t it?

Mate, have you watched a Bond film recently? It’s definitely better than James Bond and I’d say more fun than Bourne.

Still, not sure what the reason for picking Winstone was, though as everyone is spot on about his shiteness. I’m wondering if the problem with being the 24th film in a shared universe that sheds bad guys is that your pool of actors gets smaller and smaller

Keep the Loki in the Loki thread please. I avoid it until I’ve watched an episode. That’s why it’s there!

It’s about the wider MCU and it’s completely spoilered?

Yeah but just better to separate. In theory I reckon the shows still won’t be necessary for films but I guess I may be proved wrong.

Mostly it’s that I don’t want to miss a load if analysis whfn I’m reading the thread finally!

Yeah pretty pretty sure you’re totally off for this so far

Nah, nothing so far needs to be referenced.

Falcon got the shield, next film he’s Cap. It’s fine.

All these things will work okay in the films if just referenced. The Avengers films do this continually

Yeah, ok, I guess it depends what you mean by “necessary” and I was thinking about this particularly in relation to the Avengers films, where it isn’t “necessary” to have seen all the solo films.

But they’re not unnecessary either, in the way the Netflix shows or Runaways or Agents of SHIELD were either though.

And lots of the next batch will be full-on introducing new characters who will then be in the films.

Agree, you can see they are setting up a whole load of characters that scenarios which you will really benefit from knowing for the films.

Exactly this. Good to have but I think ultimately they’re not going to try to risk films being confusing without seeing the shows just yet. I just think their style so far means they’re not really that kid-friendly too.

I can’t think of a good word to use though. Not necessary or not required both tend to give the impression there’s no point in watching them but clearly there is!

Partly of course they were conceived before the Pandemic so Disney might be reconsidering, but Black Widow still made over 2/3 of its box office weekend in cinemas, which is quite a feat when you consider Disney+ logins can be shared freely so one premier access can go around a lot of people. As such I don’t see them making the shows as important as the films just yet.

They’ve always been good at this in any case with all their films. Captain America: The Winter Soldier pretty much covers all the important bits of the first film in that brief sequence where he visits his own museum via the exhibit voiceovers. I’ve seen loads in the wrong order and it’s not been an issue.
