Got most of the way through this over the weekend, its still very good but the level of acting still keeps it from being great IM honest O which is a shame as everything else about it is really a bit special.

It also makes me feel very old.

Not enjoying this lot as much as last season, it’s a bit more far-fetched (Dev somehow gets a job in a shop run by an old woman, learns Italian super quickly, goes to a party with John Legend, becomes a minor TV personality etc.)

My favourite thing about it is the realistic depiction of families, relationships and general modern life so I’ve liked the first dates episode and the thanksgiving one best up to now.

(Apparently he did really become fluent in Italian in a matter of weeks fwiw)

I actually like the slightly crappy acting. It makes it feel more real to me for some reason. Same thing as mentioned upthread, the hyperrealism of it actually makes it more appealing to me I think, makes it feel a bit more human somehow.

I feel like this season is less laugh-out-loud funny as the last season but I think I might like it more.

There’s times when it’s very endearing but when there’s any kind of heavy emotional lifting required it really falls short for me that scene in the back of the cab that goes on for ages should be a really emotional bit but his acting his really, really bad in it.

It makes me value great acting more than it makes me not enjoy this show tbh but I do think it’s a weakness that keeps it slightly at arm’s length for me.

Feel like they missed a trick by not doing a full series (or at least a few more episodes) in Italy. Had that The Trip feel where just watching the scenery and the food etc. was such a lovely foundation to then build episodes on top. Wanted more of that

Loved the Bicycle Thieves one, the other one was decent but kind of made it clear that the Italy part had run it’s course IMO.

well, in that it was all in English and all with American characters, yeah. I think they could’ve made more episodes in the vain of the first before using the wedding episode as a transition at a later point, to be quite fucking humble

Love this show, two episodes in so far. Got a big chuckle out of the policeman sitting down to eat at the thief’s house.

Could watch people cycling around Italy eating food all day tbh, shame he goes back to New York so quickly.

It would’ve been nice to start the series with Dev getting to Italy rather than about to leave, would’ve been good to see how he’d dealt with the break-up and knowing no one in a new country.

I think people lean quickly when immersed in a language, it is how my mum and bart simpson learned french

Yeah I know, I’m aware this will sound wanky but having learned three languages it’s rare for someone to learn that much that fast. Anyway good for him if he did, I’m just jealous tbh

I had a bit of a shock seeing that that episode was almost 40 minutes. Didn’t think it would be because of a basically real-time cab journey.

Play the credits over it dick ed

As a young person, it makes me feel like a failure because I don’t go to parties in ornate locations with absurdly attractive dates as part of my relatable millennial life.

Also I thought the online dating one was unrealistic because he went on dates

Need to get stuck into this. Bit wary due to this thread, but I enjoyed the first season. Keep watching It’s Always Sunny… when I’ve got a spare half an hour though.

Has anyone seen Flaked? I found that equally relatable (awkwardness of real life)/unrelatable (everyone’s beautiful and actually going on dates, etc). Enjoyed it but not sure why.

Nah it’s still really good, you should definitely watch it if you enjoyed S1.

Aye, it makes me very relieved I’ve managed to avoid Tinder and the likes but it makes me feel dead old with all the emojis and sending gifs to people and getting ubers and all that stuff as well.

I thought that there were still credits after that, no? Either way, what with the taxi ride and the John Legend bit, it felt like they were really padding the episode out…

Also like @anon5266188 said the acting (unfortunately) really let that scene down, in the hands of another actor that could have been quite powerful
