I liked Flaked but took me a while to get into it

Just finished the First Dates episode enjoyed despite thinking it would strike uncomfortably close to home.

Mostly onboard with the season overall but…it’s been mentioned a few times I find some of the scenes with people who clearly aren’t actors slightly difficult to get into.

It’d be find if they were just talking normally and using their own words but there’s this sort of uncanny valley where you can tell they’re actually reading lines.

His dad is still amazing. Genuinely would like a spin-off, or at least an episode centred around him fixing his iPad or something.

I hated Flaked - couldn’t sympathise with how much of a cock Will Arnett’s character was and how little he learned from any of his fuckups.

Enjoying this, but only up to episode 5. Wasn’t a huge fan of the date one, or the cab ending on that other episode. Or John Legend.

But it’s still funny. Had plenty of LOL moments.

5 minutes into the dating episode and it’s already way too real for me :disappointed:

The only ropey acting was the cabbies in their flat. The deaf argument and the kids overhearing it, the whole concierge bit, the Death Castle twist, all great stuff.

I like it because Aziz is so likeable. It doesn’t make me laugh out loud a lot (a bit like Louie I suppose) but I enjoy the stories and the relationships more.
The religion episode was my favourite of the new series.

Behind the times, as usual, but I just watched the first episode of series 1.

It was great. I love these comedies that aren’t always just IN YOUR FACE and Aziz does come across as a genuinely likeable guy, which really helps.

Can’t wait to breeze through them now.

what is the bad acting everyone is talking about aside from his mother? his father isn’t the best actor but is hilarious like has been mentioned, so makes up for it. i genuinely can’t think of who else off the top of my head…? his friends???

i agree about the cab scene with aziz possibly having more emotional heft with a better actor, but that is my only complaint about his acting

oops, replied in the wrong place

His cousin was pretty poor in the religion episode. Real gcse level stuff. That said it doesn’t really bother me - I like it enough to not really care.

They are actual cabbies and first time actors apparently

Pretty much everyone in it is quite bad at acting IMHO.

Exactly. I love this show for so many reasons, the very occasional bad acting really doesn’t detract from my enjoyment of it at all. It doesn’t even enter my mind as a reason to criticise it.

Bad acting is more realistic than good acting I reckon

i’d probably agree, it doesn’t ruin the show for me. it certainly has its flaws, but i’m a big fan. only halfway through the second series tho…

Yeah, don’t care about the acting. Adds to the humour for me if anything. I think the fact the show is so clearly semi-autobiographical and half the cast are basically his mates and actual parents means I give the acting part less attention. Not that many sitcoms with acting tour-de-forces are there?

That bit in the back of the cab was one of my series highlights and I thought Aziz was fine. The Soft Cell song was spot on too.

I finished this today
I enjoyed it at the start but very quickly got bored of the Italian girl relationship things and all the incredibly twee stuff they did together. I just wasn’t buying it.

It definitely needed more Arnold and Dev’s parents
