In Chinatown or just in general? Actually the answer’s the same, he’s great, especially in the 70s

The original ending was Evelyn kills her father, Polanski said he wanted a bleaker ending, especially after what had happened to Sharon Tate

Generally, he’s great in CT but find him a bit overrated

The sequel is worth a watch too

La Strada

Are all Fellini films this depressing then? It was good though.

Not that I’m in any way up to date with everything on there, but I feel like a 7 minute film is a bit of a cheeky addition from Mubi today

Been meaning to watch this, while I got MUBI for lockdown purposes. Hyped to watch Our Little Sister too, as part of my growing interest in Kore-eda’s films

Was just reading about this. Can’t wait to see it

Yeah, really curious about it cause - as I understand it was kind of butchered a bit by the studio and Welles was unhappy with it, but is since considered a very worthy follow-up to Kane (which I think could conceivably make it more enjoyable than Kane, which has the weight of its own influence round its neck)

The Lunchbox is a very lovely and good film

Anything else worth a go?

That Claire Denis one isn’t very well reviewed?

I quite liked Fedora as a sort of spiritual follow-up to Sunset Boulevard. I think I mentioned it in this thread but it is very strangely out of time in many ways – it’s from the late seventies but feels very much like it could have been made in the forties in many ways.

Water Lilies is so lovely and has a cracking soundtrack, def my 2nd favourite Sciamma film
