That Claire Denis one isn’t very well reviewed?

I quite liked Fedora as a sort of spiritual follow-up to Sunset Boulevard. I think I mentioned it in this thread but it is very strangely out of time in many ways – it’s from the late seventies but feels very much like it could have been made in the forties in many ways.

Water Lilies is so lovely and has a cracking soundtrack, def my 2nd favourite Sciamma film

Grand Illusion is meant to be very good

I think there’s a great two hour film in there, unfortunately it’s bogged down by so much padding (they take a bloody hour just to get to Skull Island!).

Genuinely thought I was in the Corona thread and you were commenting on Boris’ speech there

a great one? really?

The Assistant - Perhaps would have worked better as a short, felt overlong even at 90 minutes but it rang very true to some horrible jobs I’ve had as a PA in the past so certainly struck a nerve in that regard.

Never Rarely Sometimes Always Really great turn from the lead actress and manages to be powerful without being preachy. Really wish I could have seen this in the cinema as the atmosphere of it is really something.

Rewatched What We Do In The Shadows which was as enjoyable as I remembered it being though I definitely reckon the series is better.

Near Dark has atmosphere to spare, enjoyed it a lot - and killer score too

I described to my mates as a gateway to Michael Bay Bay films.

Any BFI Player subscribers here?

I might start a subscription. There’s inevitably loads of films that I haven’t heard of looking at their collection.

Anyone here seen any hidden gems from there recently?

dunno about hidden gems but there’s shitloads of films i’ve never seen. finished my rewatch of the vengeance trilogy on there yesterday. think Lady Vengeance might actually be the best of the 3.

they’re putting all the kurosawa back on which they took off a couple of months ago which really irked me, so that’s good. it’s well worth the £5 a month imo.
