Continue to talk about things that may or may not happen during the month of May in the world of football here.
In order to be assured of the Premier League title, Manchester City require 15 points from their remaining 6 games. In order for Arsenal to win the title, they must most likely win all of their remaining 5 games and hope to better City’s tally.
At the bottom, it’s complicated. This is the situation as it stands:
No-one is yet relegated, although Southampton will be all but assured of it if Leicester win tonight.
In the battle for Europe, Newcastle and United currently occupy 3rd and 4th spot with a mighty 7 point gap and a game in hand over Liverpool in 5th. It seems unlikely that situation will change markedly. I forget where the cut-offs are for Europa and the Confy these days, sorry, but Spurs, Villa, Brighton, Fulham and Brentford all have varying degrees of hope for qualifying for those.
In the Championship, Burnley and Sheffield United have already secured promotion to the big time. Luton, Boro, Coventry and Millwall currently occupy the play-off places, with Blackburn, Sunderland and West Brom still in with a chance of grabbing one of them.
In League One, Plymouth and Ipswich have secured promotion. Sheffield Wednesday, Bolton, Barnsley, and one of Derby and Peterborough will contest the play-offs.
In League Two, Leyton Orient and Stevenage are going up. It remains to be seen if it will be Northampton or Stockport County who will be joining them automatically. Mansfield Town still have a chance of gatecrashing the play-offs with two of Carlisle, Salford and Bradford.
Polls have been helpfully provided by @Tuna further down! A pleasant and prosperous month to you all.
