Football, eh? Amazing, heartwarming stuff that’s brought us altogether. It’s particularly great how all the outstanding teams in the Premier League got something for their troubles, the season is over now and there’s absolutely no need to play the final round of fixtures in the league this weekend. Pats hands

Frankly, everyone should just play out 0-0 draws out of respect for that kompany goal

Finding it a bit weird how a lot of people (in my echo chamber) are saying “I bloody love football”

Not bad, just seems the new thing to say.

Absolutely gutted for those Ajax lads. Most likeable, exciting thing that’s happened to European football in decades. And that’s almost certainly the end, too. Maybe the most affecting scenes of pure desolation I’ve seen on a football pitch since Samuel Kuffour punching the turf in 1999 (stayed with me since I was a kid, that).

Happy for Pochettino though. Think we’ve ended up with the worst possible final but it meaning so much will obviously elevate it above the lukewarm Super Sunday fixture it usually is; added bonus that one way or the other it’ll shut up the “but what have they won?” clowns.

Will be funny having the rest of the north west cheering on Spurs and the rest of London rooting for Liverpool.

Sounds like I missed a cracker

It’s been a good year or so for on-the-pitch football, I guess?

  • Japan lit up the world cup before being dumped out by Belgium, who were even more great
  • Ridiculous tight league going down to the wire, with two genuinely brilliant teams getting ridiculous number of points
  • A genuine Man City legend scoring the goal that (probably) sewed it up for them with a 30-yard “SHIT DID YOU SEE THAT” goal
  • England weren’t even England-y at the world cup
  • Marcelo Bielsa is managing in English football for some reason
  • Everyone liked Jesse Lingard and Harry McGuire for a bit
  • Two of the most ridiculous Gazprom semi-finals ever, happening one day after each other
  • Croatia v France was fun
  • Neil Warnock stared everybody down
  • Steve Sax and his run-in with the law
  • we’re talking sooooftball

Basically all sorts of shit.

Highlight for me was convincing the bloke that owned Boavista cafe in Nottingham that I was Spanish and him bringing me a platter of food for free at half time when Portugal were beating Spain 2-0 (?) at half time in the group stage game.

Last couple of games have been decent too.

Yeah, fuck. I wish we could have that world cup every year.

Just remembered this:

I was in Japan for their first two games, and they were so good I adopted them cos they were just great fun to watch. A little bit crap, a little bit brilliant. Was genuinely much sadder when they got knocked out then I was when England brexited…

I forgot about the utter pointlessness of Neuer going upfield. What a month that was.

Neuer’s Hartification over the past year would be notable if there wasn’t so much other shit going on.

I watched the Spurs game on the train home, fucking astonishing ending. I’d been trying to shift my ticket for the fire tonight, but after that I honestly felt desperate for football, even if it means a terrible stadium in an unpaved lot 17miles out of town. Just spent $13 on a pint.

Winning 2-0 btw. Decent display from Basti and the gang.

Valencia, however…

Yeah how’d that work out?
