Maybe You Will. Maybe You Won't. The Long May Football Thread.

With 3-5 games of the season remaining, the situation at the top is thus:

If Manchester City win all of their remaining games - Wolves(H), Fulham(A), Spurs(A), West Ham(H) - they will win the title. Arsenal’s remaining games are Bournemouth(H), Man United(A), Everton(H). With their superior goal difference, they likely only need City to slip up once in order to win. Liverpool (Spurs(H), Villa(A), Wolves(H) are not technically out of it but are looking for a monumental collapse from both of the other two at this point.

The English clubs’ all round pathetic showing in the European competitions has made the race for continental places next season interesting, with fifth place likely not enough for Champions League qualification. It seems unlikely Villa (Brighton(A), Liverpool(H), Palace(A)) will soil themselves at this stage, but they are still chasing Confy glory and that plus those two games in hand will surely give Spurs (Chelsea(A), Liverpool(A), Burnley(H), City(H), Sheff United(A)) some hope.

At the bottom, Sheffield United have already been relegated in a top flight campaign which may gone on to be regarded as one of the most desultory of all time. Two points separate the other three candidates. Burnley play Forest on the final day. Luton’s fixture list (Everton(H), West Ham(A), Fulham(H) looks the most gentle to me, but they are also in the poorest form.

Last big shouts for the Premier League 23/24, if you please:

The only slight hope I have with Luton is that those out injured that have added to the poor form are coming back. Having Adebayo back should create some goals surely?
That said, anything less than a strong performance against Everton on Friday and thats it

Can’t believe that, after this disaster of a season, i’m actually looking forward to playing United on Monday. The way we’re playing at the moment, we should cause them some issues. Saying that, Coventry caused them problems, so it’s not hard.

Congratulations on your 0-4 win on Monday, United fans.

In the Championship, despite a frankly clownish last third of the season, Leicester are champions. Ipswich have all but sown up the second promotion spot after a remarkable campaign by them. They only need to get anything at all against almost-relegated Huddersfield at home this weekend.

At the bottom, Rotherham are relegated. Again. Huddersfield are 99.9% certain to join them in L1 next season. A very tense battle to avoid the third spot beckons on the final day, with Birmingham, Plymouth, Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn all still in hot water.

In League One, one of Bolton, Barnsley, Oxford and Peterborough with join Portsmouth and Derby in the Championship next season. In League Two, one of MK Dons, Doncaster, Crewe and Crawley will join Stockport, Wrexham and Manfield in the tier above next season. Sutton United and Forest Green Rovers have dropped out of the football league.

Promoted to the PL:

As long as your best players aren’t nippy technical lads who’ll flood the gap between the defence and midfield on transition creating one on ones with slow centrebacks we’ll handle you no problem.

Nah never heard of olise, eze and wharton…Probably cart horse strikers or something

Just a shame that Arsenal have got three such absolute gimmes or we’d have half a chance. Sadly they could play those three fixtures a hundred times and not drop any points.

The idea that we’ll win all four based on how we’ve played this season is preposterous. There’s honestly more chance of Moses walking through the front door.

Don’t follow the Championship at all, but assume West Brom are getting promoted.

honestly there’s more chance of a Chinese beaver turning up to give me a motivational speech than City winning the lea…

Feels cretinous to vote against my own team in the playoffs but I just can’t see it.

You can just assume Rotherham are being relegated and West Brom are being promoted and be right roughly 50% of the time if you don’t follow it.
