Not sure how to feel about how much this has clearly hit home for you. It was just the daft way you put forward your opinion really. No beeves needed.

Cant remember if it was you or not, but because it was singling me out. In the context of the thread everyone was putting forward opinions in a daft way, it had been going on for hundreds and hundreds of posts, and at the beginning it was definitely the pumpkins more at the receiving end. Most of the thread seemed pretty good natured to me, everyones over the top daft opinions seemed to be an acknowledgment of how silly (but fun) it was to make sweeping statements about something so subjective. but then towards the end people came in and taking it seriously, with this ‘official cannon of rock music you must acknowledge the beatles were good even if you don’t like them’ which is an attitude that joking aside I am really not on board with

Not really what I was trying to say but never mind. Have a good evening.

stand by my mellon collie and the infinite sadness/sistine chapel comparison

You love @ttf because he’s a scoundrel and there aren’t enough scoundrels in your life.

Sounds like not everyone is keen in the remastered version.

Indeed, it’s hard to engage with an argument which says that Smashing Pumpkins b-sides are better than anything the Beatles ever produced, it becomes impossible to have a sane discussion.

Guys @shinymcshine this is getting a bit “pokey” for want of a better word. It already got a bit weird with people getting too defensive in the actual thread

Fair enough.

You seem to want to engage in argument as if it can be ‘won’ like their is a ‘correct’ opinion. I don’t like the Beatles, some of the pumpkins b-sides are my favourite songs, so it is logical for me to prefer them to the Beatles I don’t get this weird deference to them, there is nothing to engage with on this as it is my own personal opinion, you are free to totally disagree but that doesn’t make your opinion more sane

Just curious, are you familiar with their B-Sides?

If we were saying that Pumpkins B-Sides moved more records and had a bigger impact on the zeitgeist of the 1960s, then yes, a sane discussion wouldn’t be possible.

But saying that their B-Sides are better than the Beatles output is perfectly valid, as is the opinion of the Beatles having material that is better than Pumpkins B-Sides. As ttf said, there shouldn’t be this automatic deference to the Beatles or other bands from that era.

And just for the record, I loved the Beatles growing up and my openness about this was a major source of my unpopularity (the existence of the Beatles and U2 basically got me forcibly banned from requesting songs at our 6th grade dance). Later on I discovered the Pumpkins and I found their music to be more emotionally resonating and flat out better crafted on all fronts. I think he’s a much better songwriter.
