I’m following the Mercury Prize on the internet and on here.

I’m in a pub in Kingston after having seen two Suede gigs here earlier. I’m a 42 year old man with conservative music tastes. I actually like Wolf Alice and have seen them live a number of times. This is the reason why they shouldn’t have won. Can the panel for one fucking time give the award to an artist that’s not run of the mill?

The Sons Of Kemet album was stunning. Completely out of my usual “safe” listening. Loved it. They should have won hands down.

You’ve seen the sort of people on the panel right?

Twice they did it.

The Comet Is Coming was an amazing album. They were nominated and it lost out to someone else who I couldn’t careless about.

I haven’t but will look into it.

A nice, safe rock band with catchy pop rock songs that sold out Ally Pally a year or so ago (and so don’t need the exposure), with an album that’s not as good as their debut wins this. I’m a bit drunk but really pissed off.

Though I think the Mercury Prize is ripe for criticism…maybe you should focus your anger elsewhere.

WA are a safe but acceptable option. There were a few lesser albums on the shortlist…

If you asked the panel to vote for the best flavour of ice cream, they’d come back with vanilla.

Nothing wrong with vanilla :frowning:

They seem to vote for the music equivalent of bland ice cream far too often for my liking.

I’m guessing Noel Gallagher was a close second this year.

One thing is for sure, Lily Allen was not “robbed”.

Sons of Kemet should have won it, it would have done wonders for the London jazz scene which is quietly bubbling away at the moment.

Was worth tuning in for a great Sons of Kemet live performance - also quite enjoyed Everything is Recorded, Novelist and even Arctic Monkeys.

I liked the original mix of Bros by Wolf Alice, but they’ve been bland for years now.

The winner is always an anti-climax anyway

SAY Award>>>> Mercury award
