6 music djs maybe? The Mercury awards are for Lauren Laverne.

I don’t hate the album but don’t love it either, but The Last Dinner party will undoubtedly be nominated.
Both Cleo Sol albums were produced by Inflo though so let’s not count our chickens! ![]()
They’re announcing the shortlist on Thursday, so who do people think will be shortlisted? Who deserves to be but won’t? Who doesn’t deserve to be but will? Will they go for the jazz nominee two years running? Will someone not from London win for the first time since Young Fathers?
Me
Think the Mike Lindsay record could be an outside pick for the shortlist at least.
Who’s the big jazz nominee going to be? Yussuf Dayes? Can see it but I think if anything they’ll go for… Nia Archives? Charli, maybe? One thing you can be sure of is The Last Dinner Party will be nominated and that’ll set off all that argument again despite having little to no chance of actually winning.
Beth Gibbons to win ![]()
has Charli been nommed before? seems like a shoe-in if not
Aye she was nominated for How I’m Feeling Now
What are the cut off dates both ways?
Some nominee predictions:
Blur
Romy
Roisin Murphy (just to stress, this is who I think, not who I want!)
Sampha
Pink Pantheress
The Smile
The Last Dinner Party
William Doyle
Charli XCX
Beth Gibbons
Bob Vylan
Rachel Chinouriri
Albums by British and Irish artists with a UK release date between 15 July 2023 and 12 July 2024 are eligible for the 2024 Prize.
Would have thought English Teacher would get in. Possibly Corinne Bailey Rae. And as mentioned Nia Archives is surely among the favourites, surely more so than PinkPantheress (especially as she’s just said she doesn’t listen to albums, thus undermining the award’s aim)
doh, missed that sorry.
sorry, I’m not very clued up on a lot of UK acts so probably missed loads of obvious ones - Nia Archives is not from London though it looks like so probably won’t win knowing the Mercury!
Winner unfortunately i think
No chance. Far too divisive even amongst the judging panel. Also, FWIW nine of the last ten winners have been black (assuming Young Fathers are counted as a whole)
