Apologies for not running this for a few days.
It’s the same format as normal. This time it’s 2010. In 2010 the mercury prize was won by The xx - xx
but if you could pick the runner up who would it be?
There was some good stuff definitely - Forest Swords, Sandwell District, Hype Williams and Actress all had amazing albums out that year and looking back all of them are pretty big records. In fairness though don’t think any of them would have been on the Mercury Prize radar at the time. Quite surprised Field Music didn’t get a nod though - the rest of that list apart from Wild Beasts and Laura Marling is pretty rancid*.
Ooof what a stinker of a year. I should probably vote for Dizzee, as even though it’s far from his previous two, it’s still the best on this list and it’s not even close.
Just copped that HIther Thither by O Emperor was nominated for the Choice Prize this year (and somehow didn’t win.) That pisses over every album here, including token shit Irish album Becoming A Jackal.
If you haven’t listened - don’t make assumptions - Corinne Bailey Rae’s The Sea is incredible, heartbreaking stuff and I’ll hear nothing else. The first two tracks still get me.
