Get out.

Loads of people on the redcafe forum saying DDG is better than Schmeichal was. They all must be 12 or something.

He is.

Nah. Best on his line shot stopping yeah, and better distributer with his feet.

Big Pete was more dominant though, coming for more crosses, closing down and his throwing to set of counter attacks was amazing.

Don’t get me wrong, Schmeichel was incredible but don’t think anyone could have kept us in as many games as DDG did over the Moyes/LvG years

True. I think you could argue either way, I was just surprised how unanimous it was on caf.

an intertesting conversation just came up on a partick thistle group I’m in (I know I know but this isn’t about Scotland) which was a similar debate to whats going on in the States right now which is probably way too heavy for a friday night BUT:

Politics and Social issues in football/sports, like LGBT or Racial rights, do you believe it has a place?

and if you want to discuss your answer please do!

Yeah Petes distribution was incredible, set up so many counters

Absolutely think that sports go hand-in-hand with politics and can be a hugely important way to spread a message to working class people particularly. Muhammad Ali refusing to go to war, Jesse Owens, Clough marching with the miners immediately spring to mind. Hillsbrough was and is political in the same way that Grenfell is. Genuinely think that history will remember Colin Kaepernick as a hugely pivotal figure, the desperate attempt to dilute his message suggests others fear as much, too.

think that pretty much sums it up

I guess the reason I bring it up is just because there appears to be a (arguably older) mindset out there that is still adamant on this idea that football and politics/social issues should remain separate and that LGBT supporter groups are pushing an agenda/drawing attention to themselves or “(black) athletes are disrespecting the flag” etc. I know these things are bullshit but it does amaze me how prevalent these ideas still are

Basically saying sports people are here to “entertain us” only ignoring that they are humans too

Chelsea have just announced their Official Nigerian Beer partner.

1981 Springbok Tour protests, one of the most significant events in recent New Zealand political history. Pitch invasions, riot squads, long batons, aerial flour-bombing of grounds…

For all the throwaway statements people make about Barry, he was one of Everton’s best players the last few seasons - if not the best in the 15/16 season. Maybe not saying much, but saved us on more than one occasion, and probably our most consistent player for quite some time.
