Yep. I usually only break out from lurking on the football threads on here to defend West Ham but we are an absolute joke. I would desperately want to see us relegated if I was a fan of another team, for the LOLs. I half even want it to happen myself, as much as it hurts to say that, in the vague hope that it would knock some sense into Sullivan and Brady (Gold seems ok but has to take some responsibility for allowing Sullivan to run riot).
This Tony Henry story stinks of Sullivan trying to deflect from another failed transfer window and the apparent underlying financial problems we must have. Something about the finances stinks.
One thing that made me laugh about the Daily Mail’s reporting of that story was the way they displayed their horrible ignorance when it comes to race in attempting to demonstrate the seriousness of his comments by pointing out how many African players West Ham have in our team…most of whom aren’t African.
“Pedro Obiang played youth football for Spain but is able to represent Equatorial Guinea” (played youth football for Spain because he’s Spanish)
“West Ham new boy Joao Mario elected to play for Portugal but is of Angolan descent” (elected to play for Portugal because he was born and raised there, I would guess)
“Angelo Ogbonna’s parents are Nigerian but he chose to represent the Italian national team” (something to do with being born, and growing up, in Italy)
“Edimilson Fernandes is a Switzerland international but is of Cape Verdean descent” (again, because he was born in Switzerland)
So anyone in our team who is foreign and black qualifies as an African to suit that story.
