Great band, one of the best to do it (with heavy I havenā€™t listened to their last two albums caveat). Black Sails and The Art Of Drowning are pretty much perfect.

Genuinely one of my favourite bands of all time. Absolute students of the scene, too. Can tell all their different eras come rooted in a real kind of love.

Really hope Daveyā€™s not a piece of shit.

Got into them with Sing the Sorrow and was obsessed with it for a bit. Next one was decent but then I lost interest in them. I think I only ever went back in time to The Art of Drowning, but StS was my jam. Could stand to revisit these.

I got Sing the Sorrow for my 13th birthday along with two albums that I liked a lot more but one was by a certain Welsh band.

Edit: got this on now. More fun than I remember.

Listened to Black Sails in the Sunset today for the first time (well Iā€™m on the last track nowā€¦holy shit itā€™s 13+ minutes? Oh just one of those 90s hidden track things). Getting started I wasnā€™t sure Iā€™d be able to stomach the whole album with those vocals but Iā€™ve enjoyed it. I said upthread I didnā€™t get into AFI until Sing the Sorrow (meaning I donā€™t think Iā€™d even heard of them until then), but Iā€™m certain I would have enjoyed this had I heard it at time of release in 99. Standout track for me was ā€œMalleus Maleficarumā€. Onto the next album later today or sometime this week. Or should I go backwards? Last.fm says Iā€™ve heard 5 tracks from Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes between 2006-2007.

Only ever listened to Sing the Sorrow, but loved it a lot when it came out. Thought about doing it for that ā€˜Revisit an album you loved as a teenagerā€¦ā€™ thread, but looking at Last.fm I actually last listened to it in 2023 so it wouldnā€™t really count. Where to go if I want to broach out from StS?
