was making a train track the other day. fucking love making train tracks. I made a really nice one with the older kid, it had one of these pieces right in the middle:

with all the tracks coming off that and splitting off into further lines, bridges, turning circles all sorts of shit, and all linking up together with no dead ends or anything. Another feature that is very difficult to get right in a complex train track is whether your trains can move around the whole thing without getting stuck in a particular loop and unable to get out of it without reversing or changing direction. Doesn’t sound hard but you’d be surprised.
Anyway i finish making this track - which takes a while cos he keeps knocking the bridges over or insisting that I connect up this or that bit URGENTLY as Thomas needs to get to that station or whatever, so I have to keep rebuilding/redesiging bits of it - so I finish it and sit back with a cup of tea to watch him contently play with it on his own for half an hour or so.
But no.
He sees me relaxing, stands up to survey my work to see if I’m really done, and he looks right at the centre piece with all the main lines coming off it and says “Daddy, that piece doesn’t go there it goes there —>” and he picks it up and moves to one of the outer lines of track, just sticks it in the middle of a line and leaves the eight lines in the middle not connected up “just join those together Daddy”.
