Minute Cryptic

Enjoyed today’s. Was an amusing thing of thinking it was going to need a hint then oh yeah, love could be zero, among nuns is nouns…so in favour = yes ‘yesnouns’ doesn’t anagram…okay how about ayenouns? doesn’t anagram, okay ‘pro’… Oh!

I got stuck on foronuns to anagram, as in “for” is “in favour of”.

i’d never use “pro” in that context; it’s pros and cons, as in for and against, not in favour of or not.

I think that people say stuff like I’m ‘pro’ punching fascists or I’m ‘anti’ fox hunting which was the form I had in mind.

I made no progress this morning and just opened its again. It came to me in about 10 seconds. So bizarre the way that can happen.

Gah, had to get three letters and go one over par. This type is one I’m so bad at spotting TBF. Spent ages mulling aroundbleeding ‘him’ giving h and m, then imprisioning er but obviously couldn’t get anywhere with that.

I often struggle with this clue type too but spotted it straight away today. I’m - 289 community score now.

Wow, that is good! I’m only 191 under (unless I misread what the value tells me, but presume it’s cumulative values you have compared to par)

Yeah, cumulative score since they introduced community par a few months ago.

My streak is artificially high because I’m a paid member so I was able to go back and play the first 50 or so that were released before I started playing.

I occasionally just blank on playing it but normally I remember in time to change my timezone to Hawaii and play yesterday’s. But 84 days ago that clearly didn’t happen

I got it instantly (I rarely do very well on their clues nowadays)

Think it was because there were so few good possibilities of what the definition could be

Actually I haven’t even begun to work out the wordplay at all, just basically did it as a quick clue

Got fucked today. No idea what a square number is - I know what squaring is, so assumed it was 1, 2 and 4 but actually it is 1, 4 and 9. I don’t know why 2 isn’t a square number actually.

a square number is Y when (if X is an integer) X * X = Y. 11=1, 22=4 etc

Didn’t spot it when I first looked at it this morning but just returned to it now and got it straight away.

I’ll be honest that I think this is the stretchiest definition for a while.

I definitely mulled over the first square I could think of, 4, but could not work it out at all had to get two letters which is basically the answer and then sit through the video to understand any of it.
