Mitski

Ten minutes of tuning up.

It’s often just a truncated set and if it’s not the full band performing it’s usually made clear in advance. I’ve been to a few of the Kingston / Banquet ones and they’re great if you are lucky to get a ticket / bundle.

To be fair, £40 for the coloured LP and 45 minutes live is a bargain. Plus I would be in bed at a reasonable hour, which these days is a massive selling point.

I will try and get a ticket but don’t fancy my chances.

They often announce additional early shows when the initial ones sell out.

I’ve been to at least two ‘normal’ Mitski shows where she’s played for under an hour

One of the gigs I mention above is when she played the 2000-cap Albert Hall in Manchester when Land Is Inhospitable came out. Was that album in stripped-back form in full, then an encore of older material - whole thing came in at under an hour, comfortably.

I suppose my point is that while lots of artists will give you your money’s worth with these shows (Wolf Alice did a full band 75 minute show in Liverpool last year) I wouldn’t trust Mitski to do it as her shows are brief at the best of times

I imagine that time also includes all the prolonged pauses for fainting fangirls too.

Have seen her twice since she went TikTok massive and haven’t seen any evidence of that. The crowd were really respectful at the stripped-back one in particular

So psyched for tomorrows drop laaaads.

Love it on first listen. Retains a very Land is Inhospitable atmosphere, bit rougher round the edges.
Gotta go to work so I can pay for that Cat’s house PREACH Meow meow meow :cat: :guitar:

Really love the outro on “Where’s My Phone” but that bleeped out ‘fuck’ feels really jarring - wonder what the thought process there was…

Hah! I had to check I hadn’t chosen to listen to a “clean” version of the album or something. Really weird…

Bit underwhelming on the first couple of listens. Feels like offcuts of TLIH. I’m sure it’ll grow, but there are no obvious standouts so far.

First listen has it as maybe my fav since Puberty 2, nicely stripped back and noisy at parts. Lightning is a lovely closer, instantly replayed it

Overall though she is somehow just outside of my tastes, everything I should like but doesn’t grab me like her peers do. But will play this one plenty more and want to go back to the last album too now

I’m not obsessed yet but I have the feeling I will be soon

dream scenario is she gets announced as Green Man headliner this week

I mean, I’m having the same experience as with all her albums* in that it’s growing slowly on me

*except Laurel Hell which kind of slowly got worse over time

Thought this was well bland and it really washed over me. Will give it a bit and revisit, but first impressions, meh.
