i quite like Rave Tapes, i recognise that it’s a bit slight and ultimately a minor entry in their discography, not one i’m dying to hear in setlists beyond Remurdered, but i really like the synth sounds and production and find it quite satisfying. Every Country’s Sun sounds more like a ‘proper’ Mogwai album in comparison but i found it a bit underwhelming on the whole, the production sounds a lot like Atomic which has a quality that i don’t like but find hard to put into words. a handful of great tracks on there though, particularly Party in the Dark.
the soundtracks pass me by a bit more, Atomic and ZeroZeroZero are largely background music for me, but Kin has a couple of standout moments, and Les Revenants is excellent.
quite like the first two singles from this new one and i’m looking forward to hearing the rest.
