and this

I watched the show not too long ago (which was on the whole really good) and listened to the soundtrack straight after. Only remember having a couple of them stand out at the time- can’t remember the names now but will re-listen tomorrow. Works as a whole piece well creating tension and atmosphere and made some of the scenes in the show.

Liked ZZZ so much when it came out that when I first listened to AtLC I was a bit underwhelmed and was thinking ‘ah maybe I just prefer soundtrack Mog’ but after 3 or 4 listens I’d really connected with it, so I’ve listened to that a lot and then all the listening club albums and as a consequence I’ve kind of forgotten what ZZZ is like. From memory it’s a lot more expansive and atmospheric than Kin, maybe somewhere between Les Rev and Atomic in overall tone. Anyway will be great to listen this week.

grabbed ZZZ when it was Pay What You Want on Bandcamp for the first week or so, which was a nice treat as i probably wouldn’t have bothered buying it at full price

feel like i’ve only listened to it a couple of times really, it’s pretty long and a lot of it melded into one for me but there’s some impressive stuff on there from what i remember. this is the track that’s at the forefront of my memory when i think of this album, love it

i haven’t seen the show but work colleagues were talking about it on a Teams meeting and i managed to chime in about the soundtrack and convinced one of them to give it a listen, seemed to enjoy it.

a couple of quite funny track titles on there but in a quite subtle way without trying too hard. Nose Pints is an obvious one but He Loved Trees does me a bit as well for some reason, and The Wife Was Touched i find inexplicably funny, not sure why.

absolutely love this. i’m pretty sure it’s a Bandcamp exclusive, don’t think it’s on Spotify/Apple etc so some people might have missed it. still Pay What You Want i presume

while i’d maybe swap out one or two of the ECS tracks for an older classic, they’ve largely chosen fairly well from that album. great version of Don’t Believe the Fife.

incredible version of Remurdered as well, a couple of the live versions on youtube don’t quite do justice to seeing it in the flesh (the Quay Sessions one is pretty good through from memory) but this one captures it really well. also great to have Rano Pano and We’re No Here on a live album.

the sound is so good.

2018 is so so so so so good. been banging on here for ages about it.

If you could only listen to 3 Mogwai LPs for the rest of your life then Gov’t Commissions, Special Moves, and 2018 would be my 3 picks.

2018
Not really a live albums person although Special Moves was a bit of a revelation. Definitely plenty to like on this - I probably prefer the live versions of the all out rock tracks like Rano Pano. Other highlights inc. Don’t Believe the Fife, We’re No Here and Remurdered. But doubt I’ll come back to this tbh, like I said just because live albums don’t generally appeal.

very underrated in the Mogwai song-titles hall of fame

I did my dog walk with Kin last night, and it was frankly stunning. Pulsing ambient drone, never thought it would have sounded like that. Very much into it.

Absolutely! Great cause absolutely and some cracking prizes.

Particularly got my eye on the Mogwai vinyl (naturally ), the Thee Oh Sees vinyl, the Slowdive pedal and then Ritual Union tickets

Oooh didn’t even notice the slowdive.
I must get a look at the gig tickets listed.
If I won tickets for a gig I can’t go to I’d probably give them to a DiSer for a wee donation to the charity or the DiS fund maybe.

Have bought my raffle tickets now. :crossed_fingers:

Only listened once so far and really liked it. It felt a bit different to their previous soundtrack work though - more ambience, and a bit weirder. Like they’ve finally nailed the distinction between their soundtrack work and proper albums - doesn’t feel like there’s much on this that would go onto ATLC in any meaningful way. Not on first listen anyway.

Have no idea how to tell any apart yet. Might just vote for the titles I like the best…

Listened to this last night on vinyl for the first time, after having listened a bit after the digital bandcamp release.
It’s very good imo, a nice blend of the styles of the pulsing synths of Kin and Les Revenants’ lovely piano passages.
What it really lacks in comparison to either of those though is both a vocal track and also something that would really blow your socks off.
Picking out individual tracks is tough as the thing works so well as a cohesive relaxing listen imo, can’t imagine anyone being dying to hear one of these songs in a live setting compared to any of the other tracks on this never mind their other albums.
