No! I restrained myself. Japanese pound shops (actually ¥100 which is currently 70p) is full of the stuff, but I didn’t buy any for myself, only gifts for other people.

Yes, that’s incredibly restrained! Very nice of you though, I’m sure your friends appreciated it. There was a blog I was a bit obsessed with for a while and the woman travelled to Japan a number of times and always came back with some brilliant things. I seem to remember a number of devices to shape your food. Lemme see if I can find the odd boiled egg bunny shaper…

The pound shops are full of those food things. Lots of bored housewives crafting elaborate packed lunches for junior school kids.

I got this lot for about a fiver though.

Livid with myself

Was literally stood outside a (decent) Burrito place with a £5 lunch burrito deal. Said to m yself “nah, I’ll get myself something healthier and cheaper from the canteen”

Ended up with a measly little portions of beef stew, dumplings and potatoes for £4:10

I’m an idiot - could be eating a Burrito right now

Kind of like a Japanese version of Tiger except most things are 100円, and they’re mostly found as a concession in department stores. I think they’re quite new.

One of my direct reports kindly bought me a coffee this morning as I’m struggling to get around.

Then, later on, he bought me another one.

Then, at lunchtime he offered to buy me a third - I didn’t want a third. I counted how many times I had to say no - 31! Despite me telling him that it wouldn’t get drunk and would go cold, that it would be a waste of money he simply wouldn’t take no for an answer.

He then rang me from the coffee bar downstairs to try and persuade me to have a tea or hot chocolate instead.

In the end I had to (only half) jokingly threaten to sack him if he bought me anything.

It was mightily generous of him, but man, I really hate it when people won’t accept no as an answer.
