Here’s my thesis:

As it’s so easy to engage with any art form in the age of social media, people are demanding meta analysis from their art in order to allow for in-group out-group dynamics

Just tried a sample of a £73(!) face mask. Wanted it to be a waste of money but it’s actually fantastic. Why do I have to be poor

Interesting.

Nothing more to say: just sounded like early 90s chart music TBH
Faceshopping: Excellent stuff. Love this.
Beautiful: Dunno, didn’t mind it, didn’t feel like a particular aesthetic though, much like Nothing More To Say.
Every Night: This felt more distinct, the backing feels quite sort of early 90s harder edged chart stuff but the vocals are really doing something else. I like it.

Overall I don’t know if I could ever pick this sound out particularly based on that, but maybe that’s because it influenced so much mainstream stuff I’ve heard since or because it’s too subtle a twist on stuff.

Interesting, anyway. Thanks.

What’s it made out of? Magic? Gold magic?

Harsh, I thought it was a good insight!

Don’t bring morality into it. Take burial and Sophie in turn; burial it’s searching for meaning in a neoliberal world that has taken it away, Sophie is parodying and raging against what neoliberalism has given us in place of meaning. It’s true that Sophie feels very much more contemporary in that respect, and it does depend on shared understandings of the world that are learned on the internet, but that’s how most people get an understanding of their life these days

How do you know the pc music stuff is a parody is it in the lyrics?

Wasn’t meaning morally anyway just don’t understand why you would make art that needs to be analysed on a meta level unless it was designed for those uninvested to not get it is all

Guess kozelek is not so different really, like the hyper specificity and inanity of his songs are really about dispelling the myth of the artist and what is allowed to have meaning

Tbh I only know what it is because of this place and that was certainly only in the last two years ish

Think it being a “big thing” is pretty relative to who you know / where you live / what you’re interested in.

Creating the most Lib Dem of anthems.

The lyrics, the sound, the aesthetic, everything. Not getting that from listening to it would be like watching Starship Troopers and not realising it’s a parody of fascism imo

What if you just like it on a surface level? I see what you’re saying about the intention, but you can’t tell people how to experience something.
