Boring answer alert
(I don’t work for sainsbury’s but I’d be surprised if it were much different)

The system will suggest some things it thinks are suitable based on the factors sainsbury’s have programmed in. A human then decides what to pick. They’re encouraged to pick something. There’s no direct incentive to pick one of the suggested products but it saves thinking time and i suspect some may trust the system more than their own knowledge - especially if they’re inexperienced or very young and don’t do much of their own grocery shopping.
