Went for coffee this morning with an old school friend who I hadn’t seen in a decade until her son started at the same preschool R goes to. It was quite nice having someone to talk to in a similar situation (single parent, dealing with rubbish dads, bad anxiety).

Also bought a bar of Milka Happy Cows, the happiest of all the milk chocolates.

Tired now, as per.

What is a good book?

Still relevant.

Anything by Oliver Jeffers (especially “This Moose Belongs to Me”, “Stuck” and “An Alphabet of Stories”) or Jon Klassen (“I Want My Hat Back”) also “Oi Frog”/“Oi Dog” by Kes Gray and Jim Field, “The Way Home for Wolf” by Rachel Bright and Jim Field, “Green Lizards vs Red Rectangles” by Steve Antony… This is probably too long a list already, also see the picture book thread for more:

I have had a lot of these recently. It’s really, really soul-destroying. Especially when you’ve spent hours putting the application together.

Thanks, I’ll check them out

+1 for Jon Klassen and Oliver Jeffers (especially The Day The Crayons Quit and the sequel).

Jon Klassen is different level. So dark, simple and hilarious.

Dark enough that it would reflect bad on me for giving it to them?

Depends on the parents, but if they’ve got a sense of humour they’ll love you forever.

Think I’m safe

And then there’s jobs where everything, absolutely everything, is a match for me and I don’t even get a rejection. I’m seriously thinking about giving up for now, getting a student loan and going to university.

If it’s to go and have a laugh, good idea.

If it’s to ‘get qualified’, don’t bother. I’ve got a degree and it’s worthless. Got an interview tomorrow and I know my academic background is 100% worthless.

Mrs Z bought a copy of I Want my Hat Back for herself because she loves the art style.

Got the books now but will keep an eye out for plush dinos

That bear does look cool

Got gift receipts in case they have them already, realised that was a bit stupid with the price printed on the books
