Wouldn’t expect any less. How did your first day go?

They’ve spelled Tough Ned wrong though, haven’t they?

Pretty long but it was just the usual corporate induction stuff. Nearly fell asleep as they were explaining the average amount of time it takes to be promoted to an RTA position but I suppose anyone would have fallen asleep during that.

what is the average time?

Ah yeah, standard stuff then! I started a job on my birthday before, had to suppress the urge to shout “BE NICE TO ME, IT’S MY BIRTHDAY” at everyone, but then I suppose everyone is super nice to you for the first few days before dumping all the hard shit on you after a while :stuck_out_tongue:

Eighteen months apparently. I do not plan to be there that long.

I tried to hide it! Hate birthdays in big offices! I have a feeling it’s going to be easy this week and then they’re going to shit on us from a height next week.

how do you make the texturey bits on the snake there? Looks really satisfying.

Basically:

  1. Colour in flat layer base colour with standard paintbrush
  2. Make it into a multiply layer
  3. Duplicate the layer a few times
  4. On one copy add 20% noise
  5. On another copy use the halftone filter
  6. Use the halftone filter again on another layer, but with totally different settings
  7. Adjust order and transparency % of layers until you get a look you like

Sometimes it takes me a few goes to get a halftone pattern I like- that tool stupidly doesn’t have a preview on my edition of Photoshop.

this FUCKING STUDENT in this lecture just explained Hegelian philosophy to a FUCKING Doctor of politics. grrrrrrrrrrrrr

There was a student like that in one of my classes. The lecturer was discussing the heroes of the Iliad in terms of a football team, who takes what role. This woman interrupted him and said “what does this have to do with Greek? I’m not here to talk about sports” and then sulked when he continued his metaphor.

wow, that sounds like a lot of work! Definitely worth it for the result though right?

Yeah it just looks like MS Paint if I leave it flat colour.

I just don’t understand why people feel the need to spout off all their irrelevant knowledge at the worst times! Glorious studenting!

I think philosophy classes attract the worst though. When my friend had a medieval philosophy class, every week she had to deal with these stoner guys who thought that 5 minutes was enough to talk about Abelard, let’s bring out the Thoughts We Had While Stoned.

How were Godspeed? The Sadies were brilliant, you are in for a treat in such a small venue. Incredible guitarists.

One of the better times I’ve seen them post-reformation, few things are as good as Godspeed in full flow,I think catching them when an album has just come out is optimal in terms of being able to recognise stuff. I always have the same complaint with them these days that they seem to lean too far in the direction of guitar scree, the quieter moments are not as clean, and the lone violinist is drowned out (really think they should bolster their string section, they’ve replaced drummers and guitarist, yet they’ve let the strings dwindle)

Blagged a free ticket to see them in 2015, thought they were boring as fuck and had a bunch of sixth form level sentiment in the background.
