all in all: it depends

The request for DMs is understandable, surely? It takes the complaint off the public side of the platform and frees everyone from the character limit!

Virgin Media would never ask you to DM them, usually just c&p the stock response to the latest thing they’ve fucked up.

the people on the phone for them are usually ok, spoke to a super friendly scottish guy a while back and he would probably have helped me out had my Virgin Media home phone not cut out halfway through the call.

There’s a myth, isn’t there, that companies fill their customer service roles with Scots and Geordies because their voices just sound friendlier.

i thought that was based on actual research, although that could have been a myth. i used to have to call lots of call centers for information at work and a lot were based in Scotland or full of Scottish people, and they were generally alright. one was full of twats regardless of accent, but i think that was just the company.

WHO DID THIS :joy::joy::joy::joy::joy:

i get more and more disillusioned with it over time. like there’s a handful of people (mostly DiSers, i think) who i have genuine interactions with or who respond to you, but mostly you’re just talking to yourself. even when you post something interesting or funny tumbleweed.

it sounds very bitter and sad to say but i do think there’s an element of cliquery on there that’s been re-inforced over time. when i first started using it i got the sense that people were more open and you could make/develop friendships on there. maybe it’s because of all the abusive dicks on there but now everyone’s very closed off and ‘you’re not in my clique, why are you @ ing me?’

still better than facebook though, facebook is mind-numbing.

Moreso than Reddit?

Yep. Reddit curates more than it creates. Reddit’s own memes are mostly wack

aka most journalists.

Recent Tweets i have enjoyed:

my wife’s trying to promote her illustrations on various places including twitter, probably gets the least interactions on twitter (other than the guaranteed 2 retweets per post from me and my mum)

During my CoC semi final a guy tweeted “I don’t condone violence against women but I want to stamp on this cunt’s head on Countdown” because I was bouncing to the music. At least 5 people reported it and it was left up

Holy shit! That’s fucking horrendous

This was the most recent example I saw

Aye the guys a bawbag, but a pure funny bawbag too. If he’s a misogynist I’ll unfollow though.

I also do customer service responses on twitter. Not all the human beings behind the accounts hate their jobs but we probably all hate replying to people complaining that something was out of stock.

‘Drew’ has probably been told to reply to negative tweets mentioning the company even if they don’t @ and couldn’t think of anything to say as there’s fuck all he can do about it

No - he didn’t @ me so it didn’t feel like a direct threat. Tweeters can be really mean about the most banal things you do on TV, but that was a new level. (Runner up: guy who posted a really unflattering screengrab of me in my series QF and referred to me as Miss Piggy  )
