It was a part of my working life (one day a week) before the pandemic. The opportunity to do it a bit more or full time does not phase me.
Sure, I have relatively unproductive days, like @breakfast_t_england. Youtube is where I sometimes spend a lot of my day ā Mad Men clips and Fall Guys tips, thanks for asking.
I am just about to enter a new chapter. My wife has been home all this time and able to look after our toddler. With her back at work at a school, the tot will go to a childminder.
Working from home with the ability to nip downstairs and hug my son is great. The place will feel a bit empty without them. And who knows, maybe this will cause me to view office life differently.
It also means some of the financial benefits ā no travel, fewer lunch expenses, etc. ā is wiped out with childminder fees. Family pitched in with childcare before the pandemic so this is a change even on what came before.
The desk in the bedroom is the least palatable aspect of the whole arrangement. But what can you do?
I consider myself lucky. Video calls, which I prefer to audio only, allows me to speak face-to-face with people, in a way that satisfies me. I find I donāt yearn to speak in physical person. Video calls are enough
My career in finance also means there is a continual procession of deadlines. Thereās not a thought to āslack offā as missed deadlines mean employees and suppliers arenāt paid and accounts are not produced. Direct reports keep you earnest and honest too.
