I’m dreading the moment when management consultants persuade companies not to give their staff pay rises. Because WFH is effectively a pay raise what with all that money saved from not travelling, not buying lunch and coffee, not paying for after-school child care and so on.

Those of us without children or long commutes should get a pay rise in that case. Look forward to seeing it

lockdown has taught me that I’m actually way more of an introvert than I thought I was

like fuck do I want to get back to commuting, losing however many hundreds of pounds it is along with ten hours a week

Full time wfh anyway but normally have to go to client offices etc. Genuinely think the penny has dropped now and there will be scant few nights in shoddy Premier inns and hotels.com reward points for me in the future

What equipment should your office job have to provide if WFH is the ‘new normal’

  • Stationary
  • Office chair
  • Monitor
  • Keyboard
  • Mouse
  • Tea/coffee allowance
  • Toilet paper

In January, my work bought the unit next door so doubled the size of the office, so there will be a cognitive bias that tells them WFH is really bad, even though it’s been fine.

50% WFH is my ideal. It’s all about a balanced diet.

Going to still need after school childcare unless they let me finish at 3 from now on.

Fucked that didn’t i

Desk?

Finding it increasingly hard to focus, really need the panopticon to get anything productive done. Unfortunately going to be forced to go to the office as I’ll be moving house soon :face_vomiting:

Thought a desk would be a bridge too far. Think the poll I made is slightly too shit even for DiS

Same at my work. Not downsizing, but have decided not to go ahead with a planned move to a bigger office. People will do their day to day ‘desk’ work from home, and come in if there’s a big meeting or workshop or whatever.

I’m on the fence really. I don’t mind working from home, but my set up isn’t all that great. I am saving loads on commute and lunches though - a surprising amount. Think I’m going to get one of those tory style garden offices made.

Won’t miss the social side all that much, as I’m a bit older and couldn’t get along to that many things anyway, plus the younger peeps didn’t want me cramping their style, but I do miss chatting to people and the occasional pub visit. In years gone by I would socialise with colleagues a lot, so I imagine it’d be crap for a lot of people.

Also - the thought of starting a new job and being remote only makes me feel anxious. I’d hate that. Would suck even more if you were younger.

Someone I know who works in uni admissions has been given a desk so she can work preposterous hours when clearing rolls round.

At my place, colleagues go offline at 3 to pick up their kids and then come online 30 min later. Any meetings after 3.30 have kids screaming in the background.

if work are paying ill take it

That would be good and also discourage late afternoon meetings.
