(also my own hatred for the term ‘apres ski’ and the people who refer to it as such are the reason it was in inverted commas in my original post.)

Best: Christmas - The day itself (and few days afterwards) where you basically barricade yourself in the house with a fridge full of nice food and drink.
Worst: Christmas - All the shit other than sitting around stuffing yourself with nice food that goes with it.

I just think there’s something a bit ridiculous about people who think that they’re the rebellious upstarts on the slopes because they smoke weed, have a few piercings, dreadlocks, listen to ska-punk and scrape all the powder off the slopes.

Plus, snowboard fashion is still horrific, twenty years after it settled into its aesthetic.

are you describing a film you once saw?

Oh, someone’s irked.

…is it you?

I like skiing. I absolutely hated my hour long taster session snowboarding, which consisted entirely of me falling painfully on my arse.

^this. Slower, harder to control, just generally much less fun

Not even close to a good attempt. I know you’re not earnestly doing an over simplification and generalisation of a type of person based on their hobby. Otherwise you wouldn’t play hockey still!

longer learning curve innit.

Skiing is easier to start but probably harder to master. Snowboarding depends on your natural balance and coordination a lot more at the start and yes, there is normally about one day of frustration, being a bit slow and falling on your ass.

That said if you don’t have a good teacher or aren’t as naturally well balanced and/or haven’t done a board sport before then it can take 3 days to a week (or until you give up)

definitely not less fun though, nice try

I don’t like football culture either. I still play the game because I like playing it.

It’s slower and less technical, but I found snowboarding a lot easier than skiing. It’s got a much lower barrier to entry in that respect.

all opinion innit, I had much less fun snowboarding than skiing, despite being upright for most of the time (I skateboarded and longboarded at the time so was quicker to pick it up than most). Basically didn’t care about technical stuff and just wanted to belt down mountains as quickly as possible, so skiing was more up my alley (got airlifted to hospital)

supports liverpool. checks out.

struggled to do a basic snow plow on skis mate? no wonder you had a shit time.

Skiing is SO much easier than snowboarding for beginners

fuck

sounds like a failure of your instructor there then, because as soon as you’re upright you should be being challenged and it’s easier to go fast than slow and steep than shallow once you’re confident and able. Flats are the worst place to be when you’re a learner

Most: Whit Week
Least: Martin Luther King Day

nah got airlifted skiing. Found out they’d serve 14 year olds booze so had some rums with lunch, then went out on an icy run, stacked it and got a concussion, was fine but cause it was a head injury they had to get the chopper out

was it ok? can imagine in the cold it was a little smaller than usual
