gotta say i find the texas chainsaw massacre just to be a really deeply unpleasant and unnerving experience

found Angst (1983) to be quite gruelling too

Tyrannosaur.

Also, another vote for Nil By Mouth

Tyrannosaur is probably my favourite film of the past 10 years

A tough watch though, innit?

for me

Nil by Mouth ( only seen it once when it was new, and can’t remember much about it beyond it just being relentlessly bleak. Never felt an urge to see it again)
Breaking the Waves (when she sails off on a little boat to that big boat, so grim)
Videdrome (something about the bit when James Woods puts a videotape in his tummy)
Man Bites Dog (I know it’s supposed to be some kind of satire, but I just found it grim. Probably not helped by the fact I watched it when I had appendicitis)

I’ve not seen a lot of the obvious “disturbing” films (irreversible, Serbian film. Doubt I ever will, not really for me)

If it were without redemption then it would be almost unbearable. What is so stunning (amongst so many things about the film) is that it is, at times, so beautiful

I remember feeling very queasy watching Videodrome for the first time. Cronenburg had a knack of making me feel that way. Shivers had a similar effect

The Killer Inside Me was fucking awful.

yes! is shivers the one with the weird slug things that come out of the plughole?

oh yes - that is well disturbing.

Oh and I find the original Evil Dead quite a difficult watch - something about the atmosphere and the effects. I find it hard to imagine anyone creating it, like it just arrived fully formed as a nugget of perfect fucked upness

Oh boy I saw Mysterious Skin alone when I was at uni and feeling pretty low… it did not make me feel better (amazing film though)

Yep.
ugh

Confessions is pretty bleak

Not sure it even counts as a horror really. Just a big bleak bleakathon, good film though

Tetsuo is a bit ugh in places too

why is that blurred out?
