Clerks cost $30000 and made about $5 or 6 mill I think.
Incidentally, your photo of the vhs case for Friday 13th is giving me huge nostalgia. I can feel that case on my teeth…proper sense memory. I was a weird kid.
Also, two great movies to open with. Blair Witch was such a phenomenon.

I thought The Room might have been up there but the official figures are $6m to make and it only grossed $5m, but that doesn’t account for all the midnight movies etc that came later
Some Bond movies absolutely pissed it in returns from initial cost from memory, not going to look that up right now, but some were (again from memory) ridiculously profitable.
I believe Paranormal Activity is considered to be the most profitable of all time if you compare return on investment using initial costs with box office.
Developed for $15,000 and generated a box office of close to $200,000,000. (edit fixed typo)
It doesn’t take into account additional investment such as re-shoots, further post-production work and marketing costs although I believe TBWP would be equally impacted.

Ghostbusters 20 the rise of the ice or whatever seems to be making an insane amount despite being an open dumpster fire with Bill Murrays dessicated corpse flung on top.
