Sorry been meaning to do this a while. Will add a couple of Southside places to eat which I forgot Ranjit’s Kitchen (veg indian and fairly cheap) and soy Divison (vegan I think, burger etc. place), glad cafe (bar which has changing menu and usually decent veg options)

Also forgot picnic (veg cafe just off George sq.) And oaka (japanese place just off george sq nice veg gyozas, also has a mini market with Asian goods).

To the drink…

Off the eateries mentioned some are nice bars for drinking in too hug and pint, the 78, stereo, mono, 13th note.

Someone above mentioned there being no beer gardens. But there’s Brel on Ashton lane which i like but can feel a bit touristy and chinaskis near charing Cross. Both will probably be quite busy on sunny days.

From yours you could do a little crawl down GWR from oran mor (which isn’t that good but has a bit to sit outside and stays open later than the other bars around there I think), the belle, crafty pig, inn deep, stravaigin (food is supposed to v. good here too) & dram (both these off GWR but not to far and can go back on it further down where bars are), munros and hug and pint.

Down Sauchiehall st. I like state bar, cca and art school.

Beer wanker places: shilling in the centre, West, drygate, redmonds (out east - st lukes also has a decent selection too, these 4 are nice little crawl too, especially one a sunny day as 3 out of 4 have decent beer gardens, especially west which is probably the best beer garden in Glasgow, usually full of dogs too, if you’re into that type of thing)

6 degrees north - a bit out of the way past Partick station down Dumbarton, very good beer selection, good for a quiet sunday few.

Koelschip yard and allison arms on southside have great beer selection.

Probably forgot a few but these are the places I like to drink.

Quiet like the drake on woodlands rd too has a small beer garden out back which can catch a bit of sun

Thank you SO much, @Unlucky. Seriously, sharing your wealth of knowledge in this thread has given me so much to explore and discover. I am so grateful and I definitely owe you a beer or two at the DiS meat!

We moved in on Friday - once the exhaustion and unpacking is done with, I will be getting stuck in to the recommendations in this thread! Gonna have a good mooch around some of the charity shops for bits and bobs tomorrow, I reckon.

Ah no its fine. I moved here about 18 months ago and barely knew anyone so have done fair amount of pottering about.

I totally forgot Grunting Growler on old Dumbarton rd. Near banana leaf which is byob. Actually probably one of my top things to do is get some cans from there a get a dosa from banana leaf.

I’ll try answer the other qs in your OP this week. Glad the move went ok.

The nearest cinema to you is the Grosvenor on Ashton Lane which is nice, bar next door which you can take your drinks in from. Though is part of G1 group which has a pretty shady history so I try to stay away from their places, they own quite a lot of places though.

The next 2 nearest are glasgow film theatre which is great. The main room is really old school. Shows all kind of stuff

Then there’s cineworld which is…a cineworld.

Thank you! The Grosvenor looks great but always good to be informed on this stuff so I will look into that G1 dodgy business.

I’ve already signed up for the CineCard membership thingy at the Glasgow Film Theatre, watched Hereditary there last Thursday. Absolutely loved its vibe!

By the way, in a previous post you said you moved here 18 months ago. Where is it you moved from and what inspired your move to Glasgow if you don’t mind my asking? I’m just interested in people who’ve made a similar decision!

GFT is fucking great. Really miss it. Perfect balance of interesting new stuff and old classics.

It felt really creepy (in a good way) after watching Hereditary there, even in the middle of the day. Looking forward to spending lots of time in there.

Fixed.

I was already living away from ‘home’ (Yorkshire) in Reading and was offered a promotion of sorts in Glasgow or stick where I was. Had met a few people from East Kilbride whilst there who were planning to move back so seemed like a sensible choice.

Had the potential choice to transfer back to Leeds earlier this year and still have unsure about whether I made the right choice in staying. But I do like it here a lot, just could do with a few more friends with similar interests.

Ah, that’s cool. It’s good you went with what felt right, and it sounds like you’ve really clicked with the city - you’re looking to buy, right? And your knowledge of the place seems second to none :ok_hand:t3:

18 months is quite a short time to fully establish a friendship group somewhere new I reckon. I’m worrying about not really knowing anyone (aside from my TV obvs) up here, and how difficult it seems to make friends as an adult. I was thinking about joining a running club or something on Meet Up, and if you ever fancy going for a drink/exhibition/gig then do give me a shout!

Funny you say about Leeds, as that was a joint possibility with Glasgow once we’d decided to move. Glasgow just edged it but I’m glad it did. I’ve been away for the weekend and it feels like I’m going ‘home’ to Glasgow which I really wasn’t expecting after just one week. Which is nice.

And @laika I’m going to be absolutely desperate for pals come Christmas time so let’s just organise regular meats.

(Ones that I can actually attend preferably)
