Pop music’s never been better than it is now. The closer i get to thirty the more i find myself embracing it, and with that the more open-minded i become in terms of pop culture stuff.
The weird thing is the more you sort of refuse to embrace mass-produced mainstream stuff the more you have tunnel vision. Sure, i like listening to Deaf Bobby Smith’s 1920 hits, and that Throbbing Gristle single released ony on slate, but it doesn’t mean you have to be dismissive of everything else.
That Arianne Grande gig in Manchester was a real eye opener for me. I literally started watching it thinking “these people are all talentless morons and i’ve not heard any of their songs” to bouncing around the living room to tracks i’d heard dozens if not hundreds of times without knowing.
Ed Sheeran’s a smashing prick, like.
