Finally giving Black Country, New Road a go, and I really like it.
Has there ever been a greater discrepancy between what the artwork makes you think the music will be like and what it actually is? Everything about the cover screams ‘shit band like Cast or something’, but it’s like Sons of Kemet meets black midi meets Protomartyr ish.
More examples of this sort of thing please (artwork not matching the music).
It’s a ‘classic’ but the cover of Spiderland doesn’t give any indication really.
Taylor Swift - Folklore art had strong black metal vibes. If only.
Autechre - Amber. An absolute visual anomally in their discography. Does not look like an album full of bleep/glitch experimental ambient techno:
John Grant’s Queen of Denmark looks like it’s a skrillex type thing:
Dark side of the moon looks like it’s not unlistenable shit
Makes it seem like it would be some folkly or new age nonsense
I reckon that cover looks exactly like Tom Tom Club sound
Will this set a QI klaxon off?
Wonder if there is a thread in the opposite? Artwork that matches the sound exactly.
The answer is probably Loveless isn’t it?
I think I did start a thread on that theme a while ago but I’m too lazy to try to find it. You’re right that Loveless was a winning suggestion though.
