Music Genre Uniforms

I spend probably too much time noticing what bands and musicians wear. It fascinates me that a lot of genres have uniforms of sorts. There’s always exceptions, of course, but here’s some I’ve noticed. Please add your own to this shit post.

Indie rock/folk: Ironic thrifted clothing (bonus if ill-fitting), unkempt hair, looking like you sleep on dirt

Metal/heavy music: All black, cut off black denim, band shirts, beards, visible tattoos, scowls

Electronic/DJ: techwear, puffer jacket, big sunglasses, fancy sneakers

Country: big hats, rodeo wear, leather cuffs, boutique distressed jeans

Emo: shirt from some small college or high school you didn’t attend, funny hat

You missed battle vests.

A few genres claim the black / red plaid shirt look, like grunge / emo

Wish it was cool enough here to wear a boiler suit year round. Should probably start a power electronic group.
