Musical things you were slow to realise

Blur - Badhead

“Not worth the trouble of an ARGUMENT”

Rather than MONUMENT, which even though it makes literally no fucking sense whatsoever, is what I have heard for the last 30 years.

Academy Award winning film score composer Hans Zimmer (along with Sandy McClelland), wrote the theme tune for Going for Gold.

TIRED: Hans Zimmer played on the Going For Gold theme.

WIRED: Hans Zimmer played on Doctor In Distress, the single released to protest the BBC putting Doctor Who on ice for eighteen months which not only failed to chart but didn’t make back its expenses so the producers couldn’t pay the intended charity donation.

Chicago bands Lifeguard and Horsegirl are connected by siblings: Lifeguard drummer Issac Lowenstein and Horsegirl co-singer/guitarist Penelope Lowenstein.

While I’m here, one other family tidbit I already knew about Lifeguard is that singer/guitarist Asher Case is the son of 90 Day Men/Disappears/FACS frontman Brian Case.

Wow! Somehow I thought Horsegirl were Spanish. Who am I getting them mixed up with?

Hinds?

This won’t help at all but there’s a masked German DJ big on the Boiler Room scene called Horsegiirl.

Maybe. I’ve definitely listened to them both.

Don’t think so, but she was a clue on Hitster last night.

It’s alright I was just doing a rubbish Spanish joke

Any relation to Jason Lowenstein of Sebadoh fame?

You know what? Maybe! The article I learned the above facts from didn’t mention him, but did say both Asher Case and Isaac Lowenstein‘s dads were both noted musicians.

Looking deeper, it appears that’s a no.

Penelope and Isaac’s dad, Carlos Lowenstein, has a home studio where he makes experimental modular-synth recordings as Sun Picture.
